CHAPTER 33
Dinner plans had to be postponed for another evening. She explained to Kraig what had happened over the last few minutes. He called Quinn, advised him of the change of plans, assured him that everything was fine, and agreed to call him back later.
Olivia called John Vance and explained that she now knew who killed Noah Madison and invited him to come on over just as the first responders arrived to take charge of the scene.
Rachel Madison was clearly going through emotional turmoil. As a privileged individual, a spoiled rich kid, she seemed to harbor an insatiable desire for more than Noah could offer. Money, social standing, and all the superficial trappings that accompanied them appeared to be her driving force. From what Noahâs mother had said, it was evident that Noah loved her and genuinely wanted to provide those luxuries, but just couldnât under his current abilities. In his desperation to win her back, Noah believed that the gift from the past could be the solution, an answer to their current situation.
The puzzle pieces of the most likely scenario continued to click into place for Olivia. She realized that Rachel probably followed Noah to town, likely with the misguided belief that she could catch him being unfaithful. The circumstances of their meeting in the alley still werenât clear. Had Rachel called Noah to meet her there? It was late, Noah wouldnât have been out roaming around an alley without a reason. More likely he had been lured to the alley. Rachel would have to provide some clarification for that.
Nevertheless, they did meet in that alley and Noah was murdered. Noah likely confided in Rachel that after many years, he had finally found what he had been looking for. The nature of their conversation seemed limited, as their entire encounter lasted less than two minutes, according to the video. But there was no way to know what may have been discussed in a previous conversation.
Olivia doubted whether Rachel even knew that the gift in question was a painting. All she seemed to be aware of was that Noah had finally found the treasure, the fortune that would bring them great joy, but instead of keeping it for them, he told her he sent it to Olivia, the woman she thought he was having an affair with.
Noahâs actions compounded with Rachelâs suspicion of his infidelity proved to be an explosive combination. Overwhelmed by a surge of anger and hatred, Rachelâs emotions reached a boiling point. The very idea that Noah could have an affair and then dare to give Olivia the fortune that should have been hers filled Rachel with hatred, leaving her in a state of utter turmoil.
But Rachel had brought a loaded gun with her to meet her estranged husband, who she thought was having an affair, in the alley before she knew about the proposed fortune.
Ultimately, that anger and an emotional breakdown drove her to the extreme act of violence, shooting Noah in a fit of rage and despair.
